Etomi explained the details surrounding her return to Nigeria and eventual involvement with Nollywood. She said she wasn’t planning on relocating to Lagos when she did but quit her job owing to dissatisfaction. This prompted her trip to Nigeria. She had planned a short stay but ended up spending three years, an indication that there might be some future for her here.
“It has been good and rewarding,” she said of her stay so far. “Nollywood welcomed me and my love for acting won’t let me be. It is a decision I haven’t regretted.”
The budding actress said she had earlier done theatre productions and musicals. In recent times, however, her reach has spread into TV and film productions.
“… Before now I had done a lot of theatre; I did a lot of musicals. I wasn’t so keen on being a superstar and so I did a few things but they were mostly theatre. But this year, I did say to myself, ‘if you want to be a performer, you have to learn to be an all-rounded performer’. Hence the reason I am doing more TV and film productions,” she said.
This move has led to her featuring in three movies in 2015.
“I have another TV series called, ‘Lasgidi Cops’. I have been trying to get more screen time this year than I have done in the previous years.”
Etomi mentioned some Nollywood bigwigs she admires.
“I love RMD,” she said. “He is so awesome [and] I think he is such a dedicated performer.”
She also expressed delight in watching Kalu Ikeagwu deliver his roles on screen, calling his performances ‘great’.
She looks up to Rita Dominic, Omotola Jalade, Genevieve Nnaji and Mercy Aigbe. She currently plays Sheila on TV series MTV Shuga.
