Ebonyi State University Expels 3,000 Students

The Ebonyi State Univer­sity, EBSU, yesterday said it has expelled 3,000 students enrolled un­der the Work and Study pro­gramme for allegedly stay­ing above graduation period.
The expulsion of the affected students was con­tained in a press release of the university signed by its registrar/ secretary, Mr. Sam Egwu, and issued to journal­ists.

The statement reads in parts: “In keeping with our extant regulation on du­ration of undergraduate courses and by approval of WASP board and the senate of Ebonyi State University all the under-listed WASP students registered from 2000 to 2006 and who are yet to graduate as expected are due for withdrawal and hereby stand withdrawn with effect from the date of this publica­tion.”
Mr. Egwu further directed that any of the affected stu­dents who wish to continue should apply for extension.
“All students on approved extension and others wish­ing to apply are graciously permitted to obtain the appli­cation form for programme extension,” he said.
He warned that any of the affected students who fail to obtain the form on or before February 2016 shall be deemed to have withdrawn from the university.
