A 65-year-old man is currently being investigated by operatives of X-Squad, Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja, for allegedly impersonating an Army General and defrauding victims in different part of the state.
The suspect, Imowo Bassey, also known as General Morgan, was caught
after one of his victims, who had been on his trail, raised alarm at
Fola Agoro in Shomolu area of Lagos.
It was learned that Bassey, who hails from Akwa Ibom State, used a fake identity card to impersonate General Morgan (Rtd) as National Security Co-coordinator, Southern Zone for the Presidency, Aso Rock Villa.
Vanguard gathered that the suspect, who was paraded as a criminal by the Akwa Ibom Police Command, had been detained several times at different divisional police stations, including Force Criminal Investigation Department, Alagbon.
In his defense, Imowo Bassey said: “I do not have anything to say to you people. Are we judging the case here? If we are not, then there is nothing to say. There is no point giving my own side of the story, because there is no judge here. I have been here for three weeks.
“All I know is that I owe this boy (referring to the victim). I borrowed money from him to put my car in order, because I had an accident. He is not my friend, he is my customer. That is all.”
